GIVEN the burgeoning popularity of the Amazon Kindle and other ebook readers and apps and the reading public's ready acceptance of arguably the biggest revolution in conveying the written word since Gutenberg invented movable type, there could hardly be a better time for authors, publishers and literary agents to explore and exploit the global ebook market.
As specialists in conversions to the Kindle, ePub (flowable and fixed-layout) and POD formats, we are accredited content providers to the Amazon Kindle Stores (UK, USA, Japan, France, Germany, Italy and Spain); Amazon Bookstores; Apple iBookstores (50 territories); Barnes & Noble; Foyles; Sony Bookstore; Tesco; Waterstones; W H Smith (UK and Ireland); Kobo Books (100 territories); other international online vendors in Australia, Canada, France, Netherlands, USA and New Zealand; 25,000 libraries; and the UK's leading trade ebook warehouse. We hope that you will enjoy exploring these pages and that our competitively priced services will be of interest to you.
Note that our fees include uploading to Kindle Stores and to leading epub sales channels world wide. We make no extra charge for that service (as compared with at least one other producer/aggregator, who imposes a fee of £45.00 per upload, per vendor).
Increasing ebook sales world wide
Many publishing houses large and small and writers (including self-publishing authors) who have already embraced the ebook platform are already experiencing the substantial rewards. The Association of American Publishers says that 16 major US imprints have over the past year recorded rises of up to 160% rise in ebook sales, to $233m (£142m, €161m).
Simon & Schuster announced that their ebook revenue has doubled to $27m (£16.4m, €18.7m), accounting for 18% of their global sales.
British publishers' growing sales
In the UK, the Publishers Association reports annual ebook sales by its members approaching £20m ($32.8m, €22.7m). Chief executive Richard Mollet comments, “Digital publishing is growing at an impressive rate in whichever part of the sector you choose to look. Now that technology is putting e-reading devices into consumers’ hands, we are starting to see the rapid growth of digital sales.”
Hachette have seen ebook sales rise by 88% and Random House UK have notched up their two millionth ebook sale, with download purchases 10 times higher than a year ago.
New sales channel for books in print
An added attraction for many published authors (and their literary agents) is that even relatively recent contracts did not anticipate and make provision for ebook editions, leaving authors (or their literary agents on their behalf) legally free to publish their works in that form themselves and enjoy a new and significant revenue stream.
